Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and existing motor vehicle fleet insurance business in accordance with company guidelines and risk appetite.
• Analyze financial statements, loss histories, and operational data of potential fleet clients to assess risk exposure.
• Determine appropriate premium rates, terms, and conditions for fleet policies.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and intermediaries, providing them with expert underwriting advice.
• Collaborate with the sales and claims departments to ensure cohesive risk management strategies.
• Monitor the performance of the fleet book, identifying trends and potential areas for improvement.
• Keep abreast of industry developments, market trends, and regulatory changes affecting motor insurance.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting policies and procedures.
• Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced underwriters.
• Conduct regular reviews of existing fleet policies to ensure continued profitability and compliance.

Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in motor vehicle underwriting, with a strong focus on commercial fleets.
• A relevant qualification in insurance, finance, or a related field (e.g., CIP, NQF Level 4/5).
• Comprehensive understanding of motor vehicle mechanics, fleet management, and associated risks.
• Proven ability to analyze complex data and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of the South African insurance market and regulatory framework.
• Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• A proactive and detail-oriented approach to work.
