Chief Pilot - Commercial Operations

About the Role

Our client, a premier aviation operator, is seeking a distinguished and experienced Chief Pilot to oversee all flight operations from their Centurion, Gauteng, ZA base. This leadership position requires a seasoned aviator with extensive flight experience and a deep understanding of operational management, regulatory compliance, and crew training. As a hybrid role, you will engage in both hands‑on flight duties and essential remote administrative and strategic planning responsibilities. The Chief Pilot is accountable for ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and professionalism in all flight operations. You will manage a team of professional pilots, develop operational procedures, and serve as the primary liaison with aviation authorities. Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all aspects of the company's flight operations.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable aviation regulations, company policies, and operational procedures.
• Develop and maintain the company's Operations Manual and other operational documentation.
• Oversee the recruitment, training, and professional development of all flight crew.
• Manage flight scheduling, crew rostering, and duty time limitations.
• Conduct flight safety investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for aviation regulatory authorities.
• Maintain operational readiness of the fleet and ensure all aircraft are operated safely and efficiently.
• Promote and uphold a strong safety culture among all flight personnel.
• Act as an instructor pilot and check airman as required.

Requirements

• Valid Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) with appropriate type ratings for the company fleet.
• Minimum of 10,000 flight hours, with a significant portion in command of multi‑engine commercial aircraft.
• Previous experience in a management or supervisory pilot role (e.g., Chief Pilot, Director of Flight Operations).
• Comprehensive knowledge of aviation regulations, international operational standards, and safety management systems.
• Proven leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience in developing and implementing flight operational procedures.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model, balancing on‑site and remote responsibilities.
• High level of integrity and professionalism.
• Valid medical certificate.
