Senior Claims Assessor - Vehicle Insurance

About the Role

Our client, a leading insurance provider, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Claims Assessor to join their dynamic team in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal . This is a pivotal role where you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient assessment of complex motor vehicle insurance claims. You will play a crucial part in ensuring customer satisfaction by managing claims from initiation to settlement, upholding the company's reputation for excellence and integrity in the South African market. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of insurance principles, motor vehicle mechanics, and relevant legislation, combined with exceptional analytical and communication skills. This hybrid role offers a balance between in-office collaboration and remote flexibility, supporting a productive and engaged work environment in the Richards Bay area.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate, evaluate, and settle complex motor vehicle insurance claims in accordance with policy terms and conditions.
• Conduct thorough assessments of damages, liability, and policy coverage to determine claim validity and payout amounts.
• Liaise directly with policyholders, repairers, legal representatives, and other relevant parties to gather information and facilitate the claims process.
• Negotiate settlements with claimants and third parties, striving for fair and equitable outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant South African insurance regulations and internal company policies.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior claims assessors, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive claim records on the company's claims management system.
• Identify potential fraudulent claims and escrow them for further investigation.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of claims handling processes and procedures within the Richards Bay branch.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in motor vehicle insurance claims assessment.
• Proven track record of handling complex claims involving significant financial exposure.
• In-depth knowledge of South African motor vehicle insurance legislation, including the Road Accident Fund Act.
• Strong understanding of motor vehicle repair processes and common damage types.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in using claims management software and standard office applications.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Insurance, Law, or a related field is advantageous.
• Residency or willingness to relocate within reasonable commuting distance of Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal .
