About the Role

Our client, a premier healthcare provider in Pietermaritzburg , is seeking a highly competent and dedicated Healthcare Cleaning Services Manager. This hybrid role requires a blend of on-site supervision and remote administrative oversight to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control within their facilities. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the healthcare cleaning program, including staff supervision, training, scheduling, and quality assurance. Your expertise in infection prevention and control protocols within healthcare settings is paramount. This position is critical to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors, playing a key role in patient care outcomes and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all daily cleaning and sanitation operations within healthcare facilities.
• Develop, implement, and monitor infection control and cleaning protocols in accordance with healthcare standards and regulatory requirements.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of cleaning staff, ensuring adherence to best practices.
• Conduct regular inspections of all areas, including patient rooms, operating theaters, and common areas, to ensure optimal cleanliness.
• Manage inventory and procurement of cleaning supplies, disinfectants, and specialized equipment.
• Liaise with hospital administration, nursing staff, and other departments to coordinate cleaning activities and address specific needs.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations specific to healthcare settings.
• Develop and manage the departmental budget, seeking cost efficiencies without compromising quality.
• Implement and manage waste disposal procedures, including biohazardous waste, according to regulations.
• Maintain detailed records of cleaning schedules, inspections, staff training, and supply usage.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in healthcare administration, environmental services, or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in managing cleaning services, specifically within a healthcare environment.
• In-depth knowledge of healthcare-specific cleaning standards, infection control principles, and hazardous material handling.
• Proven experience in supervising and training cleaning staff.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., national health standards).
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple priorities in a demanding environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with cleaning management software.
• Ability to work effectively in both on‑site and remote capacities as required by the hybrid model.
