About the Role

Our client, a leading player in the mining industry, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Mine Operations Superintendent for their operations in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal . This is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily mine production, ensuring efficiency, safety, and profitability. The successful candidate will lead a diverse team of mining professionals and operational staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. This position requires a strong understanding of underground or open-pit mining techniques, depending on the specific site requirements, and a proven ability to manage complex operational challenges. You will be instrumental in driving productivity targets while upholding the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship. The role involves a hybrid work arrangement, offering a balance between strategic oversight from a central office and essential on-site presence to manage operations effectively. Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all daily mine production activities, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and processing.
• Develop, implement, and monitor short-term and medium-term production plans to achieve operational targets.
• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors, operators, and maintenance personnel.
• Optimize mining methods and equipment utilization to enhance productivity and reduce operational costs.
• Manage operational budgets, track expenditures, and implement cost-control measures.
• Conduct regular site inspections and operational reviews to identify potential risks and areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and geological departments to ensure seamless mine operations.
• Implement and oversee safe work procedures and practices to minimize incidents and ensure a safe working environment.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on operational performance to senior management.
• Foster a positive and productive team culture that encourages innovation and employee engagement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, or a related field; a postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mine operations management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Proven experience in either underground or open-pit mining operations, with a strong understanding of relevant mining technologies.
• Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide diverse teams.
• Excellent knowledge of mine planning, production scheduling, and cost management principles.
• Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practices.
• Proficiency in mining software and data analysis tools.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with all levels of the organization.
• Valid driver's license and ability to work on a hybrid schedule, including regular site visits.
