Senior Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the logistics and supply chain sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst to join their team in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal . This role is crucial for maintaining the security posture of the organization by monitoring, detecting, analyzing, and responding to cybersecurity threats and incidents. Key Responsibilities

• Monitor security alerts and events from various security tools (SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR) in real-time.
• Analyze security incidents to determine scope, impact, and root cause.
• Respond to security incidents according to established procedures, including containment, eradication, and recovery.
• Conduct threat hunting activities to proactively identify and mitigate potential security risks.
• Develop and refine detection rules, correlation logic, and alerting mechanisms within the SIEM.
• Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and attack techniques.
• Create and maintain documentation for SOC procedures, playbooks, and incident response plans.
• Collaborate with other IT and security teams to implement security controls and improve defenses.
• Mentor junior SOC analysts and provide technical guidance.
• Generate regular reports on security incidents, trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience working in a Security Operations Center (SOC) environment.
• Proven experience with SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, QRadar, LogRhythm), IDS/IPS, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, TCP/IP, and common network protocols.
• Experience with incident response methodologies and forensic analysis techniques.
• Familiarity with various operating systems (Windows, Linux) and their security implications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CEH, GIAC GCIH are highly desirable.
• Willingness to work shifts if required and ability to work effectively in a Durban, KwaZulu-Natal setting.
