Community Sports Development Officer

About the Role

Our client is dedicated to fostering sports participation and healthy lifestyles within the Vereeniging area and is seeking a motivated Community Sports Development Officer. This role focuses on initiating, organizing, and promoting accessible sports programs and events for all age groups and abilities within the local community. You will work closely with schools, community centers, local sports clubs, and volunteers to create engaging opportunities that encourage physical activity and sportsmanship. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for community development through sport, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to inspire and connect with diverse groups of people.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement community-based sports programs and initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
• Identify needs and opportunities for sports development within the Vereeniging community.
• Organize and manage local sports events, tournaments, and festivals.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including local government, schools, community groups, and sports associations.
• Recruit, train, and support volunteers to assist with program delivery and event management.
• Promote sports programs and events through various communication channels, including social media and local media.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives, collecting feedback and reporting on outcomes.
• Ensure programs are inclusive, safe, and accessible to all members of the community.
• Assist in managing budgets for community sports projects and events.

Requirements

• Experience in sports development, community engagement, event management, or a related field.
• A passion for sport and its role in community building and social development.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Proven ability to work with diverse age groups and community demographics.
• Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of various sports and recreational activities.
• A valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the Vereeniging area and surrounding regions.
• Basic understanding of budgeting and financial management.
