Senior Exploration Geologist - Base Metals

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic and growing exploration company, is seeking a highly motivated Senior Exploration Geologist with specialized experience in Base Metals to join their team in Upington, Northern Cape . This role is focused on identifying and evaluating new exploration targets, designing and executing exploration programs, and contributing to the discovery of significant mineral deposits. You will work closely with a team of geoscientists, geochemists, and geophysicists, utilizing cutting-edge technology and geological principles. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of structural geology, alteration systems, and geochemical footprints associated with base metal mineralization. Key Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and execute exploration programs for base metal targets.
• Conduct geological mapping, prospecting, and sampling campaigns.
• Interpret geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to identify drill targets.
• Supervise drilling operations, core logging, and sample selection.
• Prepare detailed geological reports, interpretations, and recommendations.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to integrate data and refine exploration models.
• Contribute to resource estimation and target generation.
• Maintain a high standard of safety and environmental practice in all field activities.
• Mentor junior geologists and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• MSc or equivalent in Geology, Economic Geology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in mineral exploration, with a strong focus on base metals (e.g., copper, lead, zinc, nickel).
• Proven experience in generative exploration and target definition.
• Expertise in geological mapping, structural analysis, and geochemical interpretation.
• Proficiency in GIS software and geological modeling tools (e.g., Leapfrog, ArcGIS).
• Experience with drill core logging and supervision.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in remote field environments.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the region.
