Logistics and Dispatch Manager

About the Role

Our client, a rapidly growing retail chain, is seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Logistics and Dispatch Manager to oversee operations at their key distribution center in Soweto. This critical role involves managing the entire dispatch process, leading a team of dispatchers and drivers, and ensuring the efficient, timely, and cost-effective delivery of goods to numerous retail outlets. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in logistics management, fleet coordination, and team supervision within the fast-paced transportation industry. This is a permanent, on-site position requiring full dedication and presence at the Soweto facility. We are looking for a dynamic leader with a proven track record of optimizing operational efficiency and driving performance improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and lead the daily dispatch operations, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and timely deliveries.
• Supervise, train, and motivate a team of dispatchers and drivers, fostering a high-performance culture.
• Develop and implement effective route planning strategies to optimize delivery routes and minimize transit times and costs.
• Oversee fleet maintenance schedules and ensure all vehicles are compliant with safety and legal standards.
• Maintain accurate records of all dispatch activities, including shipment status, driver performance, and delivery confirmations.
• Liaise closely with warehouse management, inventory control, and retail operations to ensure seamless supply chain coordination.
• Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive operational efficiency and service quality.
• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to the transportation sector.
• Respond promptly to operational challenges and implement effective solutions to minimize disruptions.
• Contribute to strategic planning for fleet expansion, technology adoption, and process improvements.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics management, dispatch supervision, or a related role within the Driving & Transport industry.
• Demonstrated experience in managing a team of dispatchers and drivers.
• Strong knowledge of route optimization software, fleet management systems, and dispatch protocols.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with retail distribution logistics is a significant advantage.
• Understanding of South African transport regulations and safety standards.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and make decisive actions in a fast-paced environment.
• This is an on-site role requiring full-time commitment at our Soweto facility.
• Proficiency in MS Office suite.
