Senior Warehouse Operations Manager

About the Role

Our client, a prominent force in the Logistics & Warehousing sector, is actively seeking an accomplished and visionary Senior Warehouse Operations Manager for their key facility in Cape Town, Western Cape . This leadership position is integral to driving operational excellence, managing complex supply chain functions, and ensuring the highest levels of efficiency and productivity within the warehouse. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in managing large-scale warehouse operations, a strategic mindset for process optimization, and exceptional leadership capabilities to guide a large team. Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of warehouse management, from inventory control and order fulfillment to staff management and safety compliance, all within the dynamic Cape Town environment. This role demands a strategic approach to managing a critical part of the supply chain in a major metropolitan area.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize warehouse operations, ensuring alignment with company goals.
• Oversee all daily warehouse activities, including receiving, put-away, picking, packing, shipping, and returns.
• Manage and lead a large team of warehouse staff, fostering a culture of high performance, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Implement and maintain robust inventory control systems to ensure accuracy and minimize stock discrepancies.
• Develop and manage operational budgets, controlling costs while maintaining service levels.
• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Identify and implement process improvements using Lean principles or other methodologies to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
• Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers and suppliers as needed.
• Utilize warehouse management systems (WMS) and other technologies to drive operational performance.
• Conduct regular performance reviews, provide training, and support the professional development of warehouse staff.

Requirements

• A Master's degree or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in warehouse management, with at least 3-5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience in managing large, complex warehouse operations and significant teams.
• In-depth knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and supply chain technologies.
• Strong financial acumen with experience in budget development and management.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven track record of implementing successful process improvements and driving operational efficiencies.
• Expertise in health and safety management within a warehouse environment.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing business needs in the Cape Town area.
• Strong understanding of the South African logistics landscape.
