Electrical Design Drafter - Renewable Energy Projects

About the Role

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Electrical Design Drafter to contribute to their growing portfolio of renewable energy projects, primarily focusing on solar and wind installations. This role is based in Polokwane, Limpopo , with a hybrid work arrangement that blends office-based collaboration with remote flexibility. You will be responsible for creating accurate and compliant electrical schematics, layouts, and diagrams for utility-scale and distributed generation projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical drafting principles and proficiency in CAD software. You will work closely with electrical engineers and project managers to ensure that designs meet project specifications and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed electrical drawings, including single-line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, and wiring details using CAD software.
• Assist electrical engineers in the design and development of electrical systems for solar PV and wind power projects.
• Ensure all drawings adhere to company drafting standards, client specifications, and relevant industry codes (e.g., IEC, NEC).
• Create Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Bills of Materials (BOM) based on approved designs.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical) to ensure integrated project designs.
• Review and update existing electrical drawings as required.
• Maintain organized and accurate drawing files and project documentation.
• Support the project team during the bidding, design, and construction phases.
• Participate in design review meetings and incorporate feedback into drawings.
• Prepare site layout drawings and electrical connection diagrams.

Requirements

• Diploma or National Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Draughting, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Electrical Design Drafter, preferably in the power generation or electrical infrastructure sector.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, with specific experience in electrical drafting tools.
• Familiarity with renewable energy systems (solar PV, wind) is a strong advantage.
• Understanding of electrical components, symbols, and standards.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment.
• Knowledge of relevant South African electrical codes and standards is beneficial.
