Senior Pharmaceutical Formulation Scientist

About the Role

Our client, a leading pharmaceutical company at the forefront of medical innovation, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Pharmaceutical Formulation Scientist to join their dedicated team in Centurion. This role requires a hands-on professional with extensive experience in developing and optimizing pharmaceutical dosage forms. The successful candidate will be responsible for translating drug substances into stable, effective, and safe medicinal products. This is a critical on-site position, contributing directly to the development of novel therapeutics. You will work within state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, collaborating with a team of experts to bring new medicines to patients. The role is vital for advancing our client's product pipeline and ensuring the highest quality standards in drug product development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize various pharmaceutical dosage forms (e.g., oral solid dosage, sterile injectables, topical formulations).
• Conduct pre-formulation studies, including solubility, stability, and compatibility assessments.
• Perform formulation development experiments and characterization of drug products.
• Scale-up formulation processes from laboratory bench to pilot and commercial scale.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation for regulatory submissions, and research proposals.
• Troubleshoot formulation and manufacturing process issues.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in pharmaceutical formulation technologies and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with analytical, process development, and regulatory affairs teams.
• Mentor junior scientists and provide technical guidance.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing various dosage forms, with a strong understanding of drug delivery principles.
• Proficiency in formulation equipment and analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, dissolution testing, particle size analysis).
• Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and relevant regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, SAHPRA).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent documentation and report-writing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
