Senior Quantity Surveyor - High-Rise Construction

About the Role Our client, a prominent construction company with a specialization in large-scale high-rise buildings, is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal . This critical role involves managing all commercial aspects of construction projects, from initial cost estimation and budgeting through to final account settlement. You will play a key part in ensuring the financial viability and profitability of projects by controlling costs and managing contracts effectively. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex bills of quantities, tendering processes, and subcontractor agreements within the high-rise construction sector. This hybrid position requires a blend of detailed site-based measurement and analysis, coupled with office-based financial management and reporting. You will be instrumental in upholding our client's reputation for delivering projects on time and within budget. Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bills of quantities for high-rise construction projects. Manage the tendering process, including procurement, negotiation, and placement of subcontracts. Administer construction contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions. Measure and value the work executed, preparing interim payment applications and final accounts. Monitor project costs against budget, identifying and reporting on variances. Manage change orders and variations, assessing their commercial impact. Conduct site visits to verify progress and quantities measured. Advise on contractual matters and assist in resolving disputes. Maintain accurate financial records and prepare project cost reports. Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure commercial objectives are met. Requirements A Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related field. Professional accreditation (e.g., SACQSP) is highly desirable. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a significant focus on high-rise or large commercial building projects. In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry pricing. Proficiency in quantity surveying software (e.g., WinQS, CCS Candy) and MS Excel. Strong understanding of various contract forms (e.g., JBCC, FIDIC). Excellent negotiation, analytical, and financial management skills. Strong written and verbal communication abilities. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites in and around Pietermaritzburg .
