Job description

Are you a motivated sales professional with a knack for building relationships and a passion for toys or educational products? We are looking for a Sales Development Representative (SDR) on a 3‑month contract to help sell bulk quantities of Rubik’s Cubes across South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Generation & Outreach : Research and identify potential customers (toy stores, book / stationery shops, school networks, creches, educational centers, corporate gift companies, etc.) who would benefit from purchasing Rubik’s Cubes in bulk. Initiate contact via phone, email, and LinkedIn to introduce our product offering.
  • Sales Presentations : Effectively communicate the value of Rubik’s Cubes to each target segment. For example, explain the educational benefits to schools and creches, the retail appeal and profit margin to shop owners, or the branding potential to corporate clients. Tailor your pitch to the audience.
  • Deal Negotiation : Convert leads into sales by negotiating pricing and terms for bulk orders. You’ll have flexibility to offer volume discounts and discuss commissionable deals. Work toward closing as many bulk sales as possible within the 3‑month period.
  • Account Management : Once a client is interested, guide them through the ordering process. Ensure excellent customer service – answer any questions about the product (specifications of the Rubik’s Cubes, delivery logistics, etc.), and follow up on leads diligently. Build relationships that could lead to repeat orders.
  • Reporting : Keep track of your outreach and sales pipeline. Provide weekly updates on progress, including leads contacted, responses, deals in negotiation, and sales closed. Since this is a short‑term project, maintaining clear records is important for measuring success. You’ll report to the project owner / founder with results and insights.

Requirements

  • Proven Sales Skills : 1‑3 years of experience in sales, business development, or account management. (Experience in toys, educational supplies, or wholesale sectors is highly preferred.) You should have a track record of hitting sales targets or generating leads.
  • Excellent Communication : Fluency in English with outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Able to craft compelling emails and comfortably speak on the phone or video calls. You should be "good with people," able to build rapport quickly and handle objections or rejections with professionalism.
  • Self‑Motivated : A driven self‑starter who can work independently. You take initiative to find new leads and don’t wait for instructions. This role is remote, so you must be disciplined in managing your time and proactive in pursuing opportunities every day.
  • Negotiation & Persuasion : Confidence in pitching a product and negotiating deals. You should understand how to listen to client needs and highlight the right benefits – whether it’s profit margin for retailers, learning benefits for educators, or fun factor for all. Resilience is key; you aren’t discouraged by cold calls and can persist to find interested buyers.
  • Knowledge of Market : Familiarity with the South African market is a must – you know the local regions and perhaps even specific contacts or stores to approach. Existing contacts in the toy retail industry or school networks would be a big advantage. At minimum, you should be able to research and identify who to reach out to (e.g., the buyer for a retail chain, or the principal of a school) and do so professionally.
  • Tech & Remote Work Ready : Own a reliable computer and internet connection for remote work. Comfortable using email, phone, and ideally tools like spreadsheets or a CRM to organize leads. (Having your own database of contacts to start with is a bonus.) You should be able to work from home and stay responsive during business hours.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience specifically in toy sales or educational product sales is highly preferred. For example, you’ve worked as a sales rep for a toy distributor or have sold learning materials to schools in the past.
  • Located in Johannesburg or Cape Town (or surrounding areas). Not required, since the role is remote, but being in a major city could be helpful for networking or occasional in‑person meetings if needed.
  • Own transport (optional) : If you plan to do any face‑to‑face visits (not required, but if local opportunities arise, having a car to visit a nearby shop or school could be useful).
  • What We Offer

  • 3‑month contract with a competitive base salary of R10,000 – R15,000 per month (depending on experience).
  • Commission on sales : attractive commission for every bulk order you secure, giving you unlimited earning potential if you exceed targets. We want to reward results – the more cubes you sell, the more you earn!
  • Flexible, remote work : work from anywhere in South Africa. We care about results, not where you log in from. This role is outcome‑driven, perfect for someone who enjoys autonomy.
  • Opportunity for extension : If the campaign is successful, there may be potential to extend the contract or transition into a longer‑term role. You’ll be helping to launch an initiative to clear out inventory in an innovative way – a success here could open doors for future projects or referrals.
