Introduction

ArcelorMittal South Africa is looking to recruit a Mechanical Technician.

  • Ensure Safety and Regulatory Compliance
  • Focus on customer service
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis on failures and manage projects
  • Perform Structural Analysis, Load Calculations, and Pipeline Specification
  • Inspect and assess existing structures and pipelines
  • Manage steel corrosion and maintenance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Execute and coordinate project management tasks
  • Maintain Quality Assurance and Control
  • Promote Environmental Sustainability

Qualifications :

  • National Diploma (NQF 6 / 10) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience :

  • Minimum 18 months relevant experience in structural / civil work
  • Experience in visual inspection of old structures for wear, corrosion, fatigue, or deterioration
  • Experience with detailed inspection methods like ultrasonic testing or other non-destructive testing (NDT)
  • Ability to document findings such as cracks, rust, deformation, or other issues affecting structural integrity
  • Ability to plan and recommend treatments for structural defects
  • Capability to re-analyze existing structures according to modern standards
  • Work with engineers to recommend reinforcement or improvements
  • Design repairs or retrofitting solutions to meet current standards
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Tekla) and structural analysis software
  • Project management skills for repairs and retrofits
  • Knowledge of SAP and computer literacy
  • Set up maintenance plans for structures requiring regular upkeep
  • Knowledge of safety and risk management, including OSH Act and regulations
