Duties include, among others, the following :

Identify story ideas for sports reports that will appeal to Netwerk24's readership;

Develop story ideas into authoritative sports reports in Afrikaans;

Stay up to date with sporting events;

Build and maintain a strong contact base that enables Netwerk24 to remain the market leader in sports news in South Africa;

Write creative, strong and well-researched sports news stories that use a variety of sources, and unique and engaging match reports.

Assist with production duties that include publishing sports reports online.

Willingness and availability to work irregular hours and often on weekends and holidays.

The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics :

Excellent writing skills in Afrikaans;

Experience as a sports journalist, in Afrikaans;

Knowledge of the South African sporting landscape as well as international sporting events;

Understanding the rules and nuances of the sports that are important to Netwerk24's readers;

A sharp sense of news;

A broad contact base;

The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;

The ability to work independently, but also as a member of a team.
