About the Role
The Head of Engineering will be responsible for the full engineering lifecycle of solar PV projects, from concept and design through to implementation and commissioning. The role requires a leader who can oversee multi-disciplinary engineering teams, optimise processes, and ensure that all designs and installations meet regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and technical direction to the engineering department.
- Oversee the design, development, and optimisation of solar PV and battery storage systems.
- Lead feasibility assessments, system sizing, simulations, and technical due diligence.
- Ensure compliance with relevant SANS standards, NRS requirements, and health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including Project Managers, Procurement, and Executive Leadership to drive project delivery and performance.
- Prepare and approve technical documentation including drawings, specifications, and engineering reports.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, technology adoption, and design efficiency.
- Manage engineering budgets, resource planning, and team capability development.
- Mentor and grow junior and senior engineers.
Requirements
Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng / BSc), ECSA registration or eligibility preferred.8 12 years engineering experience, with proven leadership experience in renewable energy.Strong hands-on knowledge of solar PV (C&I and / or utility scale) including energy storage systems.Experience managing engineering teams and external EPC or subcontractor partners.Proficient with relevant design software (e.g., PVSyst, AutoCAD, Helioscope).Strong understanding of grid connection requirements and compliance processes (Eskom or Municipal).Excellent problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills.
