The Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of cranes, rolling stock, and lifting equipment to ensure that a high standard of maintenance is consistently achieved.
Operating from the local repair center or workshop, the Technician works to prevent and resolve equipment failures in full compliance with Sarens' quality, safety, health, and environmental regulations, as well as local legislation and manufacturers' guidelines.
PROFILE
- Receive and offload all major components.
- Prepare, locate, lift, and install major WTG (wind turbine generator) components.
- Install loose components for nacelle, hub, and tower preparation.
- Connect blades to the hub and perform rotor preparation and installation.
- Prepare and stage the hub; lift, handle, and torque blades as required.
- Complete all service reports and related documentation on a daily basis.
- Complete daily worksheets and ensure they are signed off by the supervisor or manager.
- Identify required tools and parts for each assigned task and ensure re-certification of equipment and tools.
- Verify the availability of all required tools and parts before starting work; participate in toolbox talks and daily team briefings.
- Report opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Follow all work instructions, procedures, safety codes of practice, and employer OH&S and environmental requirements, as well as applicable statutory rules and regulations.
Requirements
In-depth understanding of the different components of a wind turbine, including the electrical pitch system, to successfully complete installation and MCC (Motor Control Center) tasks.Ability and willingness to work on weekends, public holidays, shift work, or on-call duty as required.Ability to influence others and lead small teams.Willingness to train and mentor others as needed.Competence in Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards.Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.Effective problem-identification and problem-solving skills.Ability and willingness to climb wind turbines.3-4 years of experience in wind construction with any OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).Strong understanding of wind turbine construction is an added advantage.Diploma in a related discipline from an accredited institution, or ITI.
