Assistant Operations Manager – Kempton Park

Job descriptionOversee receiving processes, stock control, and order dispatch Supervise order picking, checking, loading, and delivery logistics Support daily and long-term planning of staff and vehicle allocation Ensure crate returns and inventory flow are tracked and managed efficiently Monitor production support and ensure quality and output targets are met Manage SHE, quality, and compliance policies daily Respond to and investigate incidents, breakdowns, and service complaints Lead and manage operations staff in the yard and on the road Control costs (overtime, fuel, repairs) and maintain equipment schedules Recruit, train, evaluate and discipline operations staff with HR support Communicate daily with sales and internal departments Report on logistics performance and implement process improvements Matric (Grade 12); Tertiary qualification in Logistics / Supply Chain / Operations is a plus At least 3 years’ experience in warehousing or distribution (fresh produce preferred) Fruit and vegetable product knowledge is essential Good working knowledge of disciplinary procedures and people management Must be computer literate Valid driver’s license and own transport preferred Reliable, accountable, and able to work shifts and weekends
Our client, a leader in the fresh produce distribution sector, is looking for a proactive and experienced Assistant Operations Manager to support the daily running of their warehouse, logistics and production environment. This role is essential to ensure smooth receiving, packing, loading, and dispatch of fruit and veg — while managing people, product, and performance in a time-sensitive environment.
Based in Johannesburg
- Previous warehouse and distribution experience essential
- Fruit & veg knowledge is a must
- Grade 12 required, tertiary in Supply Chain or Logistics is advantageous
- Strong people management, planning, and systems skills
- General computer literacy required
- Must be willing to work shifts
