Overview
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Inventory Controller to lead the setup and optimization of inventory management systems and practices at a remote mining operation in Southern Africa. This is a hands-on role requiring deep technical knowledge, strategic thinking, and the ability to coach and uplift local teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inventory System Setup : Design and implement robust inventory control systems tailored to mining operations.
- Material Master Improvement :
Standardize and enhance item coding
Develop accurate technical descriptionsIntegrate OEM part numbersEstablish and maintain min / max stock levelsStock Rationalization :Identify and eliminate redundant or obsolete stock
Support disposal or repurposing strategiesBill of Materials (BoMs) :Develop BoMs for critical assets and equipment
Align BoMs with maintenance and procurement plansMaterial Requirements Planning (MRP) :Initiate and manage MRP processes
Forecast demand based on operational schedulesStock Holding Review :Audit current practices and procedures
Recommend and implement improvementsInventory Optimization :Balance availability with cost-efficiency
Reduce stockouts and overstockingStaff Coaching & Development :Train warehouse and procurement personnel
Promote best practices and system literacyStakeholder Management :Ensure ongoing communication with Management
Conduct weekly head of section meetings, information sessions and training sessions where required or when there are process changesEnsure safety, legal and company policies are adhered to.Implement a culture of best-practice maintenance.Minimum Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum 5 years experience in inventory control, preferably in mining or heavy industryStrong understanding of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Pronto, Oracle)Proven experience in setting up inventory systems from scratchTechnical aptitude in mechanical / electrical components and mining equipmentExcellent analytical and organizational skillsAbility to work independently in remote and challenging environmentsStrong interpersonal and coaching skillsPrevious remote site or international mining experience advantageousFluent in EnglishCompetencies
