Inventory Controller

Job descriptionDevelop accurate technical descriptions Integrate OEM part numbers Establish and maintain min / max stock levels Stock Rationalization : Support disposal or repurposing strategies Bill of Materials (BoMs) : Align BoMs with maintenance and procurement plans Material Requirements Planning (MRP) : Forecast demand based on operational schedules Stock Holding Review : Recommend and implement improvements Inventory Optimization : Reduce stockouts and overstocking Staff Coaching & Development : Promote best practices and system literacy Stakeholder Management : Conduct weekly head of section meetings, information sessions and training sessions where required or when there are process changes Ensure safety, legal and company policies are adhered to. Implement a culture of best-practice maintenance. Minimum 5 years experience in inventory control, preferably in mining or heavy industry Strong understanding of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Pronto, Oracle) Proven experience in setting up inventory systems from scratch Technical aptitude in mechanical / electrical components and mining equipment Excellent analytical and organizational skills Ability to work independently in remote and challenging environments Strong interpersonal and coaching skills Previous remote site or international mining experience advantageous Fluent in English Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in automation and process control Excellent communication and collaboration skills High safety and compliance awareness Ability to work independently in remote site conditions Proactive mindset for system improvements and optimisation
Overview
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Inventory Controller to lead the setup and optimization of inventory management systems and practices at a remote mining operation in Southern Africa. This is a hands-on role requiring deep technical knowledge, strategic thinking, and the ability to coach and uplift local teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inventory System Setup : Design and implement robust inventory control systems tailored to mining operations.
- Material Master Improvement :
Standardize and enhance item coding
Identify and eliminate redundant or obsolete stock
Develop BoMs for critical assets and equipment
Initiate and manage MRP processes
Audit current practices and procedures
Balance availability with cost-efficiency
Train warehouse and procurement personnel
Ensure ongoing communication with Management
