Preparatory School Deputy Head (Academics).
Due to the retirement of our long-serving Deputy Head (Academics), we are seeking a dynamic and innovative educational leader to join our Senior Leadership Team.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for a visionary educator to lead the academic programme. The suitable candidate will work closely with the Head of Preparatory to maintain and elevate academic standards, support curriculum innovation and lead staff development within a values-based, collaborative school culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the academic programme ensuring rigorous and engaging curriculum delivery.
- Set academic targets and monitor student outcomes to support continuous improvement.
- Lead and manage academic timetables, internal assessments and reporting.
- Drive curriculum development aligned with IEB standards and international best practices.
- Mentor and support teaching staff through ongoing professional development.
- Analyse academic data and implement targeted interventions for learner support.
- Coordinate academic events, including prize-givings and parent–teacher meetings.
- Support the academic induction of new staff and pupils.
- Model exemplary teaching practice and meaningful contribution to the extra-mural programme.
- Remain up to date with educational trends and contribute to innovation in pedagogy and curriculum design.
Requirements and Professional Attributes
A recognised teaching qualification, suitable for Intermediate Phase education.Minimum of 5 years’ experience in academic leadership or curriculum management.Registration with SACE (South African Council for Educators).Experience in an ISASA school and / or with the IEB curriculum (advantageous).Demonstrated ability to engage, inspire and support diverse learners.A track record of academic innovation and commitment to professional growth.Strong communication skills both verbal and written.A cooperative, team-oriented mindset and commitment to collaborative leadership.A willingness to fully participate in the school’s academic and extracurricular life.A commitment to upholding and contributing to the Christian values and Anglican ethos of St Dunstan’s College.We Offer
