Overview
To independently assess and provide expert advice on the estimated new replacement cost, open market, forced sale and other values of physical assets (plant, equipment and machinery) to ensure that physical assets, including those considered for and / or taken for collateral, are properly valued.
Responsibilities
- Assess variances between the client’s and independently determined estimated capital expenditure costings, envisaged process improvements, etc., and make recommendations for adherence to industry norms and best practices
- Evaluate the appropriateness of the envisaged plant and equipment installation
- Develop strategy, methodology, programme and deliverables against set programme milestones
- Identify risks inherent in the client’s plant and equipment projects and make recommendations for risk mitigation
- Validate the accuracy of reviewed valuation reports of physical assets prepared by others
- Drive continuous improvement of the department’s processes, procedures, templates, etc.
- Maintain relevant records and relations to support expertise and knowledge
- Prepare report writing and presentations for internal and external committees
- Manage effective interaction with SBUs and Departments
- Maintain and enhance knowledge of valuation and related best practices
Qualifications
Degree or National Diploma in Engineering or NQF6 or equivalent (Minimum ECSA candidacy)Registration - ME201Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA); Member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and American Society Appraiser (ASA) will be an advantageKnowledge and Experience
3 - 5 years’ experience in plant, machinery and equipment appraisalExperience in mechanical / industrial engineering and / or financial services industry is advantageousIndependently conducting own assessments and valuations of plant, equipment and machinery, and providing expert advice on :
The appropriateness and reasonableness of the client’s anticipated capital expenditure on plant, equipment and machinery to validate against applicable industry normsThe functional, economic, physical obsolescence of plant, equipment and machinery and its impact on the IDC’s physical collateral registerThe forecast of total and remaining economic life and value of plant, equipment and machinery and its impact on the IDC’s collateralThe variance between the client’s and independently determined estimated capital expenditure costings and envisaged process improvements, with recommendations for adherence to industry norms and best practicesThe appropriateness of the envisaged plant and equipment installation strategy, methodology, programme and deliverables against set programme milestonesThe risks inherent in the client’s plant and equipment projects with risk mitigation recommendationsThe validity and accuracy of reviewed valuation reports of the physical assets prepared by othersContinuous improvement of the department’s processes, procedures and templatesTechnical / Functional Competencies
