Animal Law Reform South Africa (ALRSA) is seeking a dynamic Lawyer to develop and drive ALRSA’s farmed animal initiatives and institutional footprint. Such a professional can have experience as an attorney, advocate, academic, legal advisor, in the judiciary, in-house counsel, and / or other appropriate areas within the legal profession.

ALRSA believes all animals have intrinsic value and deserve to be legally protected. We were founded on the principle that justice is enhanced where legal protection is available to all sentient beings. Our founding value is therefore that human rights are enriched, not impoverished, by including animals in the notion of justice.

This is a contract position for a fixed 12-month term and is fully remote , subject to occasional travel nationally and internationally. Depending on funding and performance, this term may be renewable. The incumbent should be able to start no later than January 2026 (earlier if possible).

• A detailed CV
• A tailored covering letter motivating why you are interested in the position; why you have the necessary qualifications, skills and experience for this position based on the requirements above; and your alignment with the vision and mission of ALRSA and, in particular, why you wish to work for an organization focused on law reform for animals, and on farmed animal issues in particular

• A writing sample of approximately 10 – 25 pages (may include academic articles, pleadings or other legal documents or writing to illustrate applicant’s written abilities)
