Overview
Role Purpose :
To underwrite and manage a portfolio of sectional title and community scheme insurance policies by evaluating risk, setting appropriate terms, and delivering a high standard of client service. This includes new business, renewals, and endorsements across residential and mixed-use property schemes.
Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite new applications for sectional title schemes, ensuring accurate risk profiling and compliance with underwriting guidelines.
- Renew and maintain existing policies, ensuring correct valuations, coverage, and client details are captured.
- Price risks appropriately based on exposure, claims history, location, and construction type.
- Liaise with brokers, managing agents, trustees, and internal stakeholders to clarify cover, provide advice, or negotiate terms.
- Evaluate building inspection reports, surveyor inputs, and claims data to improve risk selection.
- Handle mid-term changes, including amendments to cover, endorsements, and policy cancellations.
- Ensure all policy documents, schedules, and underwriting notes are correctly issued and stored.
- Stay updated on legislation affecting sectional title schemes (e.g., Sectional Titles Act, CSOS requirements).
- Provide support during claims disputes or queries relating to cover interpretation.
- Collaborate with the claims, finance, and legal departments to resolve complex client issues.
Qualifications
Matric / Grade 12 (essential)FAIS-compliant qualification in Short-Term Insurance (e.g., NQF Level 4 or higher)RE5 certification.Experience
3-5 years of underwriting experience in short-term insurance2+ years specifically in sectional title / community scheme underwritingExperience with insurance systems and underwriting softwareSkills & Competencies
