Job description

Our client, a historic large-scale farm, based in Wellington, with a -year winemaking heritage, is transitioning to become a top organic olive oil producer, with 50 trees being planted to support an annual production of litres of premium organic olive oil.

They are seeking an experienced Olive Farm Manager to lead this transformation.

This senior role requires strong leadership and expertise in olive production, orchard management, and organic farming standards.

Responsibilities will include : Strategic Leadership & Management : Oversee olive cultivation operations (planting, pruning, thinning, irrigation, and harvesting).

Manage a large team, ensuring smooth operations and high productivity.

Implement and refine organic farming systems for certification compliance.

Olive Oil Production & Quality Control : Manage on-site olive mill, ensuring efficient processing and premium oil extraction.

Maintain quality standards from harvest to production, optimizing yields.

Sustainable & Organic Farming Practices : Implement organic pest control, nutrition, and soil health programs; Ensure adherence to organic and sustainable certifications.

Use modern mechanical harvesting while preserving quality.

Budget & Operational Oversight : Manage the olive division's budget, optimizing costs while maintaining quality.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience : Minimum 5 years management experience in the olive farming or a related sector (e.g., fruit / vineyard management); A relevant tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field will be advantageous; Expertise in pest control, pruning, nutrition, and mechanical harvesting; Knowledge of olive oil production and quality control preferred; Understanding of organic farming principles and regulatory compliance will be beneficial; Experience with irrigation systems, farm machinery, and maintenance; Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; Proficiency in English.
