Introduction
Our client a market-focused alternative investment fund operating across Africa and the Middle East is seeking a Junior Legal Advisor to join their Sandton-based team. With a legacy in debt financing, trade finance and impact investment, the firm plays a pivotal role in driving economic growth, job creation and community upliftment in key sectors across emerging markets.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, analytical and ambitious legal professional to gain exposure to cross-border finance, structured trade and corporate legal advisory within a global investment environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
General Legal Support
- Draft, review and implement a wide range of legal documents including NDAs, service agreements, corporate resolutions, letters of demand and participation agreements.
- Conduct legal research, draft opinions and advise on the interpretation and application of relevant legislation.
- Liaise with clients and external counsel, managing matters from inception to completion.
- Provide strategic input on corporate governance, legal compliance and regulatory frameworks.
- Support litigious and enforcement matters related to the fund’s operations.
Trade Finance & Transactional Support
Advise on finance and security agreements, term sheets and ancillary documentation under South African English or international law.Assist with conditions precedent, transaction closing and cross-border trade finance documentation.Collaborate with portfolio managers across deal origination, approval, negotiation and post-close monitoring stages.Corporate Legal Strategy
Contribute to the development and implementation of legal strategies that support the company’s operational and financial objectives.Ensure risk management, policy development and legal compliance across all business activities.Desired Experience & Qualification
BA / BCom Law and LLB Degree (essential)Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa (or in process of admission)Completed legal articlesExperience in Banking & Finance, Trade Finance or Cross-Border Transactions (essential)Strong legal drafting, research and negotiation skillsProficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and legal research toolsExcellent written and verbal communication with high attention to detail and a deadline‑driven mindsetAdditional languages such as French, Arabic or Hindi will be advantageousOpportunity for travel within Africa and the Middle EastKey Competencies
