Key Purpose
Drive the development, implementation, and optimisation of reinsurance strategies and arrangements to support Discovery Insure's risk management, capital efficiency, and business objectives. The role ensures effective structuring, placement, and management of reinsurance treaties and facultative arrangements, providing expert actuarial input and strategic recommendations to executive management. The Reinsurance Actuary will collaborate with reinsurance brokers, actuarial, underwriting, claims, finance, and external reinsurers to deliver robust risk transfer solutions, maintain regulatory compliance, and enable sustainable growth in a dynamic short-term insurance environment.
Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to
Reinsurance Programme Design & Placement : Lead the structuring, negotiation, and placement of reinsurance treaties and facultative arrangements (quota share, surplus, excess of loss) in line with Discovery Insure's risk appetite and objectives.Broker & Reinsurer Engagement : Build and maintain relationships with reinsurance brokers and reinsurers to secure optimal terms and ensure effective execution of strategies.Reinsurance Account Management : Oversee end-to-end management of reinsurance accounts, coordinate with finance and reinsurers, and ensure timely settlements.Strategic Advisory & Research : Research, evaluate, and recommend reinsurance structures and market opportunities.Portfolio Analysis & Reporting : Analyse portfolios, conduct experience investigations, and create dashboards to monitor payments and recoveries.Governance & Compliance : Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements, IFRS 17, SAM, and actuarial practice notes.Stakeholder Collaboration : Collaborate with actuarial, underwriting, claims, finance, legal, and compliance teams.Process Optimisation : Improve reinsurance processes, methodologies, and controls.Presentations & Communication : Deliver presentations to reinsurers, Actuarial Committee, and Exco.In-House Catastrophe Modelling : Perform modelling to support renewal negotiations and ORSA processes.Knowledge and Skills

Manage an actuarial team responsible for analytical analysis and capital modelling, to ensure financial stability of Guardrisk Life and its clients and lead modelling for the valuation of SAM compliant technical provisions.
Requirements
Fellow or Associate Actuary specialising in LifeAt least 6 years' relevant work experienceAt least 3 years' management experienceAdvanced understanding of SCR components for a Life insurer as per Prudential Standards; cell captive experience is an advantageUnderstanding of Insurance Act, Prudential Standards and IFSR17Advanced understanding of discounted cash flow models, reserving methods, liability valuation; Prophet software coding and modelling is imperativeDuties and Responsibilities
