High-Level Overview
The client is an integrated renewable-energy services organisation delivering accounting, operational finance, advisory, asset management, maintenance, and investment services across its portfolio of companies. They are seeking a Junior Accountant to support a portfolio of renewable energy clients in routine bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial reporting in collaboration with the Director.
Role and Responsibilities
- Manage routine bookkeeping activities including AP / AR processing, transaction posting, and maintenance of accurate accounting records.
- Prepare payment batches for review and execution by the Director.
- Manage vendor and supplier documentation, verifying supplier statements and following up on outstanding invoices and quotations.
- Perform regular balance sheet and bank reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data.
- Manage day‑to‑day communication with client stakeholders, responding to information requests, clarifying financial data, and ensuring a smooth flow of operational accounting support.
- Support the monthly close process through preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, schedules, and variance reviews.
- Prepare routine financial reporting packages and support the Director to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Support additional scope areas such as payroll processing or tax compliance as assigned.
- Contribute to ongoing process improvements and documentation enhancements across portfolio company finance functions.
Requirements
3+ years of accounting experience (preferred).Experience managing books for multiple entities is advantageous.Exposure to energy or sustainability sectors is not required and can be learned on the job.Technical Requirements
Minimum BCom degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Honours degree preferred but strong hands‑on experience will be considered.A recently qualified CA(SA) may be considered if aligned with budget expectations.Solid understanding of IFRS fundamentals and core accounting principles.Proficiency with Xero for bookkeeping, ledger management, invoicing, and quotation preparation.Ability to prepare financial schedules, reconciliations, and monthly close documentation.Strong Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, data validation, basic data cleaning, and reconciliation techniques.Other Skills
High attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency, particularly for routine and repetitive workflows.Clear and confident communication skills for engaging with stakeholders across multiple group companies.Strong organisational skills and the ability to take ownership of work across several parallel workstreams.Ability to work independently and maintain productivity in a remote environment.Working Arrangement
Location : South Africa, Remote. Work hours : 08 : 30 – 17 : 00 (South African business hours). Travel : Occasionally to Eastern Cape sites if needed.
Terms Of Agreement
Start Date : Immediately. Contracting Period : Three‑month review period, with anticipated ongoing engagement thereafter.
