Requirements
- 3-year Engineering diploma – Mechanical / Engineering
- Trade Test (preferable)
- A GCC (Factories) qualification is not mandatory for this role, however significant progress towards obtaining a GCC in the near future must be demonstrated.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a similar environment of which at least 5 years should have been in a supervisory or management capacity.

Strategy Execution
Provide input into the regional Operations strategy, based on a 1-year view of requirements.Knowledge and Skills
Excellent understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering, with ammonia refrigeration experience.Thorough understanding of OHSACT, 85 of 1993.Thorough understanding of FSSC 22000, HACCP, ISO14000, ISO18000 policies and procedures.Thorough understanding of The Labour Relations Act.Excellent people management and leadership skills.Attention to detail.Operational Maintenance Management
Plan and implement a maintenance programme for regional depot refrigeration systems and material handling equipment to minimise downtime and costs.Oversee major repairs and maintenance on all utilities and infrastructure.Manage day-to-day engineering functions including operational projects, ensuring delivery within time, cost, and scope.Drive asset productivity through agreed KPIs and efficiencies.Report daily on actual KPIs vs. budget and address non-conformance proactively.Manage maintenance staff time-keeping, leave rosters, and attendance.Coordinate planned maintenance with other functional areas to ensure operational efficiency.Implement asset productivity and care plans through :Planned maintenance strategy and tactics.Root cause analysis of breakdowns.Identification and escalation of high-risk issues.Delegation of resources to planned and reactive maintenance.Drive workshop appearance and image through housekeeping and frontline interaction.Ensure continuous improvement of plant and equipment efficiencies and effectiveness.Manage costs to ensure lowest cost production and optimal asset utilization.Maintenance and Planning
Develop and implement an effective planned preventative maintenance system.Oversee major repairs and breakdowns to minimize costs.Drive daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance planning with the assistance of the planner.Strategize CAPEX focus to reduce downtime and improve equipment efficiency.Ensure health, safety, environmental, and food quality standards are met when specifying new equipment.Process change control documentation for equipment and plant changes with audit-ready records.Manage and control the fixed asset register and ensure updates per policy.Ensure all project work is completed to the highest standard.Project Management
Manage building and construction projects or liaise with external project management specialists.Prepare conceptual designs and preliminary costing estimates for CAPEX.Liaise with consultants (civil engineers, quantity surveyors, electrical engineers, local authorities).Ensure project spend is contained within authorized CAPEX.Develop regional expansion strategies aligned with national and group strategies.Utilities Monitoring

Act as GMR 2(1) appointee for the site under OHSACT.Enforce compliance with health, safety, environmental, and food quality standards.Ensure facilities comply with legal requirements in design, use, and maintenance.Ensure electrical equipment and installations meet statutory and business needs.Implement occupational health and safety compliance.Ensure building and equipment usage aligns with risk, security, safety, HACCP, and ISO standards within TIMS.Apply TIMS documentation consistently across maintenance.Monitor and verify contractor compliance with OHSACT and authorize access.Identify opportunities for improved practices in ISO, environmental, health, safety, and feed safety.Outsourced Contractor Management
Supervise and assign maintenance work to contractors daily with clear accountability.Monitor contractor compliance with OHSACT and ensure proper induction, safety file readiness, and task competence.Customer Service Management
Support warehousing and transportation in achieving service and efficiency KPIs through planned maintenance.Financial Management
Implement and encourage cost-cutting initiatives that do not compromise long-term sustainability.Team Management
Lead the maintenance team toward meeting targets through communication and full use of the talent management system.Implement succession plans to develop future leaders and specialists.Implement training and development programmes using available opportunities or by contributing to new solutions with training specialists.Conduct regular performance appraisals and cascade the process throughout the team.Conduct meetings, maintain records, and ensure delivery of agreed action plans.Ensure all relevant maintenance meetings take place.Implement disciplinary procedures when necessary.Problem Solving and Innovation
