We have an exciting position for a Structural Engineer to ensure that structural engineering technical services are optimised and delivered professionally and effectively, adhering to all safety and legislative requirements.

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Responsibilities

To perform maintenance effectively to maximize the availability of equipment to sections at the lowest cost by : Adhere to all safety, health and environmental practices and requirements.

• SHE policies and procedures :
• Escalate all unsafe practices or risks to the direct supervisor / manager.
• Support good housekeeping in the department and on-site to ensure compliance.
• Performance and Delivery
• Manage and govern all structural engineering processes safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively to meet short-term and long-term production objectives.
• Develop and test new growth ideas, including technology, for viability in preparation for and to be taken through the various project phases to ensure project success.
• Implement and contribute to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives and projects to ensure the implementation of best-practice engineering processes.
• Design and Compliance Assurance :
• Prepare, review, coordinate, check and approve calculations, drawings, and specifications to achieve and maintain Kumba’s operational and project objectives.
• Ensure adherence to structural design standards and specifications throughout project assignments.
• Provide compliance assurance, auditing, and inspection services to the operations.
• Provide technical input into structural design issues and liaise with the Mechanical Department on plant designs.
• Ensure all design standards are adhered to and maintained on all projects.
• Contractor and Customer Relationship Management :
• Manage Structural consultants and contractors as part of the team to ensure zero harm to workers and minimal property damage.
• Ensure that customer relations are maintained and enhanced to contribute to overall project success.
• Ensure all contracts are in place to monitor contractor performance and compare to agreed-upon requirements.
• Reporting and Budget :
• Creating automated reports where appropriate to track and monitor results and quantify benefits associated with specific strategic initiatives.
• Contribute to the development of the Departmental budget.
• Manage the section's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.
• Identify any opportunities for improved cost management, and either address these or raise them with your manager.

This role is in the Engineering & Maintenance (ENG) department at Band 6 / 10 (D1) level reporting to the Discipline Civil Engineer.
