Senior Urban Planner
About the Role Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Urban Planner to contribute to strategic development and land-use initiatives in Sandton . This role involves complex analysis, policy development, and stakeholder engagement to shape the future growth and sustainability of urban areas. You will lead planning projects, provide expert advice, and foster collaborative relationships with government bodies, developers, and community groups. This hybrid position offers a balance of focused in-office work for collaborative sessions and remote flexibility for focused analytical tasks, contributing to impactful urban development. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement comprehensive urban plans, zoning regulations, and land-use policies. Conduct spatial analysis, demographic research, and environmental impact assessments for proposed developments. Lead public consultation processes and stakeholder engagement activities. Prepare planning reports, presentations, and policy recommendations for review by authorities and clients. Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other professionals on integrated development projects. Provide expert testimony at planning tribunal hearings or public inquiries. Requirements Master's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Geography, or a related field. Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in urban planning, policy development, or land-use management. In-depth knowledge of South African planning legislation and development frameworks. Proficiency in GIS software and other relevant planning analysis tools. Strong analytical, research, and report-writing skills. Excellent communication, negotiation, and public speaking abilities.
