About the Role Our client, a prominent Financial Services institution in Sandton , seeks a strategic and experienced Head of Legal . This senior leadership role is responsible for overseeing all legal operations, managing the legal team, and providing expert counsel on regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and complex transactional matters within the financial services industry. You will be a key advisor to the executive team and the board, shaping the company's legal strategy and ensuring robust risk management frameworks. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the legal department, including mentoring and developing legal staff. Provide strategic legal advice on regulatory matters, including compliance with financial services legislation (e.g., FAIS, FICA). Oversee the legal aspects of corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and capital raising. Develop and implement effective corporate governance policies and procedures. Manage relationships with external legal counsel, regulators, and other stakeholders. Oversee risk management and compliance programs within the legal function. Requirements Admitted Attorney of the High Court with a minimum of 10-12 years of experience, with significant leadership experience in financial services. Deep understanding of financial services regulations, corporate law, and commercial transactions. Proven track record in managing legal teams and strategic legal planning. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Experience in risk management and compliance frameworks. Ability to operate effectively at board and executive levels.
