Remote Agricultural Extension Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Remote Agricultural Extension Officer to connect with and support farming communities through digital channels. In this role, you will leverage technology to disseminate vital information on best agricultural practices, new technologies, and government support programs directly to farmers, regardless of their physical location. You will act as a crucial link between agricultural research institutions and the farming community, providing guidance and facilitating knowledge transfer to enhance productivity and sustainability across the Eastern Cape and beyond, operating entirely from a remote setup.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver educational content (webinars, videos, articles) on modern farming techniques, crop management, and sustainable practices.
• Provide remote technical advice and support to farmers via phone, email, and online platforms regarding agricultural challenges.
• Facilitate online knowledge-sharing sessions and farmer forums to foster community learning and problem-solving.
• Disseminate information on new agricultural policies, market access opportunities, and financial support schemes.
• Collect feedback from farmers to identify emerging needs and challenges, relaying this information to relevant stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records of farmer interactions, advice provided, and outcomes achieved.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Rural Development, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in agricultural extension services, community development, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of diverse agricultural systems and challenges faced by farmers in South Africa.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience in developing and delivering educational materials.
• Proficiency in using digital communication tools, online platforms, and basic data management.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work environment.
