Category Manager - Groceries

About the Role

Our client is looking for an analytical and strategic Category Manager to lead their grocery category in Benoni . This role is responsible for optimizing product assortment, pricing, and promotions to drive sales and profitability for the grocery section within the FMCG landscape. You will work closely with suppliers, merchandising teams, and marketing to ensure a competitive and appealing product offering that meets consumer demand. This is a key position influencing customer purchasing decisions and overall retail performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute category strategies to maximize sales, market share, and profitability.
• Analyze sales data, market trends, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and threats.
• Manage supplier relationships, negotiate terms, and source new products for the category.
• Develop and implement effective pricing and promotional plans.
• Collaborate with the marketing team to create compelling in-store and online merchandising.
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure optimal stock availability for the grocery category.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in category management, merchandising, or a related role within FMCG or retail.
• Strong understanding of the grocery market and consumer behaviour.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and strategic planning skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Experience working with retail analytics and category management software.
