Remote Senior Formulation Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Remote Senior Formulation Scientist to drive the development of novel drug delivery systems. Working entirely remotely, you will lead formulation strategy, design, and optimization for new pharmaceutical products, translating early-stage research into viable dosage forms. This role requires deep expertise in pre-formulation, formulation development, and scale-up, with a strong understanding of how to overcome complex formulation challenges. You will collaborate closely with R&D, analytical, and manufacturing teams across different time zones to bring cutting-edge therapies to patients, supporting our operations based in Port Elizabeth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the formulation development of new pharmaceutical products, including oral solid dosage forms, injectables, or topical applications.
• Design and execute experimental studies for pre-formulation, stability, and compatibility of drug candidates.
• Develop and optimize robust formulation processes that are scalable for commercial manufacturing.
• Troubleshoot formulation challenges and implement effective solutions to ensure product quality and performance.
• Prepare comprehensive formulation development reports, technical transfer documents, and regulatory submission data.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and trends in drug delivery and formulation science.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
• Proven expertise in various dosage forms (e.g., tablets, capsules, sterile injectables, transdermal patches).
• Strong knowledge of materials science, polymer chemistry, and drug delivery principles.
• Experience with formulation development software and analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, DSC, TGA).
• Excellent remote work communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.
