Senior Mine Ventilation Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Mine Ventilation Engineer to join their team in Benoni . This critical role focuses on designing, implementing, and managing effective ventilation systems for underground mining operations. You will ensure optimal air quality, temperature control, and gas dilution, thereby safeguarding the health and safety of personnel and maintaining operational efficiency. The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in mine ventilation principles, modeling software, and regulatory compliance within the Gauteng mining landscape .

Key Responsibilities

• Design and optimize mine ventilation networks to meet air quality and thermal comfort standards.
• Conduct ventilation surveys, including airflow measurements, gas monitoring, and dust sampling.
• Utilize mine ventilation modeling software (e.g., Ventsim, Whittle) to simulate network performance and assess impacts of changes.
• Develop and implement dust suppression and control strategies.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant mine health and safety regulations pertaining to ventilation.
• Provide technical support and training to ventilation staff and operational teams.
• Manage the procurement and maintenance of ventilation equipment, including fans and auxiliary systems.

Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering or Mining Engineering with a specialization in ventilation.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in mine ventilation engineering, specifically for underground operations.
• Proficiency in mine ventilation simulation software and data analysis.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and environmental monitoring principles.
• Knowledge of South African mining ventilation legislation and standards.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills.
