Architectural Technologist - Commercial Projects

About the Role

Our client, a reputable architectural firm with a significant footprint in the commercial sector across Rustenburg and beyond, is seeking a skilled Architectural Technologist to bolster their technical design capabilities. This position is ideal for an individual with a meticulous approach to detailing and a strong command of technical drawings and specifications. You will be instrumental in translating architectural concepts into buildable solutions, working closely with architects and project managers on a variety of commercial developments. The role requires a proactive individual who can ensure technical accuracy, coordinate with consultants, and assist in the smooth progression of projects through all phases. We are looking for someone who is adept at problem-solving and committed to delivering high-quality technical documentation. This is a great opportunity to contribute to significant projects within the North West province and gain exposure to diverse commercial building typologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed architectural drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details, using CAD software.
• Develop technical specifications for materials, finishes, and construction methods.
• Coordinate with structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and other consultants to integrate their designs into the overall architectural plan.
• Assist in preparing tender documentation and construction contract administration.
• Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with design specifications.
• Review shop drawings and samples submitted by contractors.
• Ensure all technical documentation adheres to relevant building codes, standards, and regulations.
• Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
• Collaborate with the design team to resolve technical issues that arise during the design and construction phases.
• Utilize BIM software to enhance coordination and documentation efficiency.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Architectural Technology or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as an Architectural Technologist, with a focus on commercial projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and other relevant architectural software.
• Strong understanding of building construction methods, materials, and building regulations.
• Excellent technical drawing and detailing skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Experience with contract administration is advantageous.
• Familiarity with South African National Standards (SANS).
• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
