Remote HR Generalist - Employee Relations Focus

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic and innovative tech startup, is seeking a proactive and experienced Remote HR Generalist with a strong focus on Employee Relations to join their growing team. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere. You will play a crucial role in managing and resolving complex employee relations issues, ensuring fair and consistent application of HR policies, and fostering a positive and productive remote work environment. This role requires a deep understanding of labor laws, conflict resolution, and best practices in managing employee conduct and grievances. You will be a key point of contact for employees and managers, providing guidance and support on a wide range of HR matters. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who thrives in a remote setting and can effectively navigate sensitive employee situations with diplomacy and professionalism. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining a harmonious workplace culture across our distributed workforce.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve employee grievances and disciplinary issues promptly and impartially.
• Provide expert guidance and support to managers and employees on employee relations matters, performance management, and HR policies.
• Develop, implement, and update HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance and best practice, particularly in a remote context.
• Conduct HR-related investigations, ensuring thoroughness, fairness, and confidentiality.
• Facilitate mediation and conflict resolution between employees.
• Advise on legal compliance related to employment law and employee relations.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs on HR-related topics, such as conflict resolution and performance management.
• Collaborate with other HR functions to ensure a cohesive approach to employee support and development.
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.

Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in Human Resources, with a significant focus on Employee Relations.

In-depth knowledge of South African labor law and employment legislation.

Proven experience in conducting workplace investigations and resolving complex ER issues.

Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and discretion.

Strong mediation and conflict resolution skills.

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.

Proficiency in HRIS and general office software.

Experience in a tech or startup environment is a plus.
