Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, experienced, and organized Workshop Manager to lead our Johannesburg Workshop Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all workshop operations, ensuring top-quality repairs, refurbishments, and maintenance of heavy earthmoving machinery.
You will manage technicians, control workflow, maintain safety and quality standards, and ensure all work is completed efficiently and professionally.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day workshop operations, staff, and workflow.
- Oversee diagnostics, repairs, and refurbishments of heavy earthmoving machinery and equipment.
- Plan and schedule work to meet deadlines and ensure high productivity.
- Implement and enforce safety and quality control procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections and quality checks on completed work.
- Manage parts inventory, job cards, and workshop documentation accurately.
- Liaise with the sales and service departments to coordinate machine preparation and delivery.
- Train, mentor, and motivate workshop staff to maintain high technical standards.
- Monitor equipment performance and report on workshop efficiency.
- Ensure all machinery is serviced, maintained, and ready for customer delivery or sales display.
Requirements
Minimum 5–10 years' proven experience in earthmoving machinery maintenance or workshop management.Trade qualifications (like a Diesel Mechanic qualification or Red Seal certificate), and extensive experience (3-5+ years) in a workshop environment or as a supervisor.Strong technical background with experience in major brands (e.g. Caterpillar, Bell, Komatsu, Lovol, Volvo, or similar).Excellent leadership and team management skills.Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues efficiently.Sound knowledge of hydraulics, engines, electrical systems, and diagnostics tools.Strong organizational and communication skills.Ability to manage budgets, job costing, and parts usage effectively.Valid driver's license and willingness to travel if required.Computer literacy (MS Office, job card or workshop management systems).A disciplined, reliable, and safety-conscious leader with strong problem-solving ability.How to Apply
