Summary
We are seeking a Workshop Manager who is a Trade-Tested Diesel Mechanic with extensive experience managing workshops that service and maintain large fleets of heavy trucks, trailers, and associated equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the workshop, including fleet maintenance, managing workshop staff, breakdowns, spare parts inventory, and ensuring optimal fleet uptime.
Key Responsibilities
- Workshop Management : Oversee the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow, adherence to safety standards, and adherence to schedules.
- Fleet Maintenance : Manage and coordinate preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs for a fleet of heavy trucks, trailers, and other equipment, ensuring maximum fleet availability.
- Staff Management : Supervise and lead a team of diesel mechanics and support staff. Ensure that all team members are trained, efficient, and meeting performance targets.
- Scheduling and Planning : Plan and coordinate scheduled maintenance, repairs, and emergency breakdowns, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Inventory Management : Maintain an accurate inventory of spare parts and consumables. Ensure that all required parts are available for maintenance and repairs, and manage orders accordingly.
- CMMS Oversight : Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track and schedule work orders, monitor maintenance history, and generate reports for management.
- Compliance and Safety : Ensure the workshop adheres to all relevant industry standards, legal requirements, and safety protocols.
- Vendor and Supplier Liaison : Manage relationships with suppliers for parts, tools, and equipment. Negotiate pricing and service levels to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Reporting and Documentation : Provide regular reports to upper management on fleet performance, maintenance costs, and workshop efficiency. Keep records of all work done, parts used, and any incidents.
- On-Call Responsibilities : Be available on-call for after-hours emergency repairs or breakdowns as required.
Key Requirements
Trade-Tested Diesel Mechanic (essential).5 to 10 years of experience in managing workshops for heavy trucking fleets, trailers, and associated equipment.Valid driver\'s license (Code EC or equivalent) for driving heavy vehicles.Experience & Skills
Proven experience managing and coordinating workshops that handle large fleets of trucks and trailers.Solid understanding of fleet maintenance, breakdown repairs, and troubleshooting of heavy vehicles and associated equipment.Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems), including scheduling, reporting, and inventory management.Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate staff.Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a demanding workload, with excellent organizational and time-management skills.Strong understanding of health and safety practices in the workshop environment.Experience managing spare parts inventory and working with suppliers for timely procurement.Ability to work under pressure, especially during breakdowns and emergencies.Attributes
