The Lodge Managers at Royal Malewane work alongside the General Manager and Heads of Departments to ensure that our safari properties continue to create memorable experiences that will encourage our guests to return time and again, to this exceptional slice of paradise in the African bush. All of this supports the purpose of The Royal Portfolio, which is "to give our guests a complete experience and a perfect stay."
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Leadership – staff recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, development and training, performance management, disciplinaries
- Hotel operations - ensure the smooth running of all departments around guest needs and movements
- Budgeting - assisting departments and management to remain in budget for the year
- Guest Relations - ensuring positive guest feedback and being visible and accessible to guests
- Asset upkeep - ensuring functionality and maintenance of buildings, equipment, furniture, grounds, etc.
Qualifications / Requirements
Previous experience in a 5-star Lodge environment, living on-site, working extended cyclesDiploma or Degree in Hotel Management5-years’ experience in a management role within a 5-star environmentIncluding 2+ years spent as Restaurant Manager in a 5-star hotel / restaurantSouth African Wine Academy or WSET course completionStrong Food & Beverage knowledge, and aware of trends in the industryExperience working across all departments of the hotel operationFair knowledge of general maintenanceOpera and Micros proficiency, as well as Word, Excel, OutlookAbility to handle pressure, with a sense of urgencyWorks well within team environment and leads by exampleLevel 5 leader, level-headed and strong willedGreat communication and interpersonal skillsHighly organisedApproachable and caring in natureFirm and assertive with fair dispositionDedicated and driven individual who is ambitiousMature attitude to businessPassionate about sustainability and the environmentAdditional information
It is important that the candidate is able to work as part of a team and is a good cultural fit for The Royal Portfolio.
South African citizenship is advantageous. A valid work permit is essential if you are not in possession of a South African ID document.
It is a requirement of Thornybush Nature Reserve that all staff undergo a pre-employment polygraph test.
