Overview
Reporting to : Head of Programmes
Main purpose of the job : Coordinate high school academic programme, with focus on English and non-STEM subject development and rollout, to deliver on organisational goal and vision
Responsibilities
- Develop High School academic workplan & related calendar in collaboration with HSC – Maths Lead
- Undertake planning of academic support programme
- Research & map school-based academic ecosystem, including approach, average results, resources, policies and support
- Research & map external and online programmes which align to scholar requirements and SBF programme
- Develop broad-based targeted interventions according to the general needs of SBF scholars, including extra tutoring programme, online programmes and external opportunities, based on general results
- Incorporate above programmes into broader HS programme, including contracting with service providers, where appropriate
- Research and plan non-STEM academic support for Grade 7 preparatory programme
- Research and plan English assessment methodology and tools
- Provide input grade specific content & curriculum, based on workplans and SBF strategy
- Support & provide data-driven reflection and feedback to improve content, curriculum, workplans and strategies
- Develop, facilitate and mark English & any other non-Maths assessments for Grade 6 applicants
- Collaborate with Prep on content & sessions for High School Transition, taking responsibility for the content and delivery of the English academic support
- Facilitate workshops within the programme, presenting & delivering programme content
- Attend interview and provide input into selection process
- Facilitating the attendance of potential beneficiaries at place
- Implement grade 8 scholar orientation programme, supporting the scholars’ smooth transition into the new school environment
- Lead / implement academic interventions, monitoring and managing, as appropriate
- Responsible for all non-STEM academic interventions across all schools – providing oversight, monitoring & adjustments as required
- Build & maintain school relationship with key school-based partners (principals, head of academics, heads of sport, heads of hostel, SLOs, admissions officers and school secretaries)
Qualifications and Skills
Qualifications : Relevant post graduate qualification in Education or related field, preferably including specialisation in English
Skills and knowledge
Proved practical experience in designing and implementing academic interventions, including design & application of assessment methodologySouth African educational system and context and how to work within itUnderstanding of complexity of diversity and discrimination across all factors, including but not limited to class, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, culture and religionMulti-lingual (Xhosa and Afrikaans) would be an advantageCase management, documentation and reporting skillsStakeholder / client / partner managementShould you not hear from us within two weeks, please consider your application as unsuccessful
