SUMMARY :

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering client specialising in high-voltage electrical infrastructure. They are looking for a technically strong Substation Automation & Control Engineer (SCADA) to join their team in Gauteng. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in substation environments and is passionate about automation and control systems (from 11kV to 400kV).

POSITION INFO :

As a Substation Automation & Control Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, configuring, implementing, and supporting substation control and SCADA systems. You’ll work closely with project, protection, and SCADA teams to deliver integrated, cyber-secure automation systems that meet the latest standards. Your focus will include configuring IEDs, RTUs, and HMIs, conducting FAT and SAT, and ensuring compliance with IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and other protocols.

Job Experience & Skills Required :

• Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Systems Engineering
• Minimum 5 years' experience in substation automation and control (11kV–400kV)
• Strong background in SCADA systems and substation communication networks
• Proficiency with IEDs (e.g. Siemens, ABB, GE, and SEL), and tools such as DIGSI, PCM600, and IET600
• Skilled in communication protocols including IEC 61850, GOOSE messaging, and DNP3
• Ability to read and develop logic diagrams, schematics, and network configurations
• Understanding of cybersecurity in critical infrastructure (advantageous)
• Excellent problem-solving and technical documentation skills
