Systems Programmer – z / OS System Support (Mainframe Sysprog) at Blue Pearl HQ
The Systems Programmer (z / OS System Support) is responsible for the installation, customization, maintenance, and performance of IBM z / OS systems and related mainframe software. The role ensures the reliability, availability, and stability of the mainframe environment, supporting business-critical applications and production systems.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM z / OS , associated subsystems, and related mainframe software products.
- Provide system-level support , including problem determination, performance tuning, and incident resolution.
- Perform system upgrades, PTFs, and maintenance activities with minimal business disruption.
- Manage and support z / OS components such as JES2 / JES3, SMP / E, RACF, REXX, ISPF, and TSO.
- Monitor system health, capacity, and resource utilization to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with application and operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, standards, and change control processes.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing .
- Implement and enforce security and compliance standards within the z / OS environment.
- Provide 24x7 support on a rotational basis for critical system incidents.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum of 5+ years experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer supporting z / OS environments.Strong knowledge of IBM z / OS, JES2 / JES3, SMP / E, RACF, ISPF, TSO, and REXX scripting .Experience with mainframe storage management, tape systems, and catalog management .Proven experience with z / OS upgrades , patch management, and capacity planning.Familiarity with problem determination tools (e.g., IPCS, SYSVIEW, RMF, OMEGAMON).Understanding of mainframe networking, VTAM, TCP / IP, and security controls .Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.Experience working in environments with high availability and strict SLAs .Qualifications
Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field .IBM z / OS certifications or equivalent technical training advantageous.ITIL Foundation certification preferred.Competencies
