Job Description
Responsible for the real-time monitoring, analysis, and reporting of security data across critical-telecommunications infrastructure. The role ensures operational readiness, situational awareness, and rapid incident response through the effective use of surveillance systems, access control platforms, threat intelligence, in order to protect network continuity, infrastructure, and personnel by enabling data-driven decisions, identifying emerging risks, and supporting compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Requirements
Monitoring & Surveillance
Continuously monitor live CCTV systems from multiple telecommunications facilities including data centers,switching stations, cell towers, and transmission hubs using VMS platforms such as Milestone.
Observe alarm panels for security breaches including forced entries, door left open, motion detections, and perimeter fence tampering.
Analyze access control events from systems like Babylon AMS to identify unusual access patterns, credential misuse, and unauthorized attempts.
Track and verify arrival and departure times of field technicians, contractors, and armed response units to ensure compliance with scheduled maintenance and security patrols.
Perform active incident validation through video verification to reduce false alarms and avoid unnecessary dispatch of response teams.
Conduct system health checks and daily surveillance equipment status reviews to ensure cameras, alarms,and access control devices are operational.
Initiate immediate escalations for critical alerts such as intrusion alarms, equipment sabotage, or environmental hazards affecting network assets.
Coordinate with control room operators to ensure full situational awareness during active incidents,supporting communication and decision-making.Support live monitoring during high-risk periods such as protests, national events, or regional emergencies
affecting telecommunications infrastructure.
Maintain detailed logs of surveillance activities and anomalies to support audit requirements and post incident reviews.
Security Analysis & Reporting
Compile detailed incident reports using integrated data from video footage, access control logs, and alarm
system records.
Track and document incident timelines, sequence of events, operator actions, and response measures.
Perform root cause analysis of high-priority security breaches (e.g., tower break-ins, copper theft, fibre cuts).
Maintain incident registers and escalate recurring or suspicious patterns for further investigation.
Analyze and correlate incidents across geographic regions to identify coordinated or syndicated activity.
Generate daily, weekly, and monthly intelligence summaries with performance metrics (e.g., average
response time, incident frequency by site type).
Support senior management with real-time dashboards and post-incident reviews.
Develop structured reports and evidence packs to support insurance claims, disciplinary processes, and law
enforcement submissions.
Flag false alarms, data discrepancies, and procedural gaps affecting reporting accuracy.
Contribute to the design of incident classification systems and escalation protocols in coordination with
governance teams.

Education :
NQF 6 : 3 year Diploma / National Diploma
Qualifications and experience :
Qualification in Information Technology, Security Risk Management, Telecommunications, Criminology,
or related fields (NQF level 6)
Experience in a control room, physical security, or security operations role.
Experience with CCTV / VMS and access control systems (preferably Milestone and Babylon).
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and incident reporting tools.
Special Requirements :
Willing and available to work shifts.
Exposure to telecom infrastructure or utility environments.
Familiarity with GIS mapping or security automation platforms.
Security certifications (e.g., PSP, CPP, or vendor-specific).
Experience with data visualization platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.

Access control and verification Greet and assist all visitors, employees, and contractors in a professional and courteous manner. Verify identification, issue visitor badges / cards, and maintain accurate visitor logs. Enforce access control policies, including Anti-Passback rules and National Key Point compliance requirements. Monitor entry / exit points to prevent unauthorised access. Conduct basic bag or equipment inspections where authorised. Use electronic access systems and CCTV to monitor lobby activities. Visitor & Contractor Management Contact hosts to confirm appointments before granting access. Ensure all visitors and contractors are escorted or directed to their destination. Incident Reporting Report suspicious activities, security breaches, or safety hazards to the Security Consultant or Control Room immediately. Maintain accurate incident and access records for audits.
