Senior Lecturer (Permanent) and Rotational Head of Department (5 Year contract) - (8212)
Job Purpose : Head of Department. The HOD must manage the department effectively and efficiently in line with CPUT policies and procedures, including academic project management, research management, HR and staff management, financial management, and student management.
The successful candidate will teach Analytical Chemistry modules and supervise student projects up to Postgraduate level, contribute to curriculum development in the Department, and support the Department in teaching and learning, work integrated learning, service learning, and research.
Responsibilities
- Teach Analytical Chemistry courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Supervise undergraduate final year research projects and postgraduate students.
- Develop innovative teaching and learning methods and materials (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content).
- Participate in curriculum development and quality assurance activities.
- Engage in research projects and produce DHET-accredited publications.
- Participate in the Department’s marketing and student recruitment activities.
- Provide leadership in research activities and in achieving department objectives.
- Create a vision and provide leadership to the Department; foster excellence in teaching, research, service mandates, and expectations.
- Carry out academic and administrative duties; manage budgets and finances; manage human resources; ensure safety.
- Assist with portfolio development and implementation; develop policy and governance related to the department.
- Contribute to School / Dean activities where applicable and support industry partnerships.
- Perform other functions as assigned by the Head of Department.
Qualifications and Experience
Doctorate in Chemistry or equivalent qualification.A minimum of 5 years relevant experience, with at least 3 years' experience as a Senior Lecturer.2 years' management experience related to the functions of a Head of Department (academic management, curriculum development, quality assurance and accreditation processes, financial and HR management in a Department).Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above.Experience in curriculum development; industry experience is advantageous.Additional qualifications may be considered as per institutional requirements.General Information
