Assistant Manager - Maintenance (Manufactoring Industry)

About the Role

Ensure availability of production equipment and arrange for building maintenance and repairs as required.

Daily interaction with Production Manager, Industrial Foreman and Mining Foreman on equipment maintenance and repairs; As required interaction with HODs on maintenance and repairs of buildings; Manager Operations as required on installation and commissioning of new equipment; Buyer on procurement of materials and external service providers; Tool Room Supervisor as required on component fabrication needed for equipment repairs.

Maintenance and Repair Suppliers as required; Equipment suppliers as required for the installation and commissioning of new equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Planning

Preparation of preventative maintenance schedules for all production equipment; planning of repairs to ensure lowest possible downtime of equipment; allocation of work to Maintenance Supervisor and outsourcing of work that cannot be done in house

Requisitions for materials and suppliers to carry out maintenance and repairs

Discuss work allocation and work in progress with Supervisor daily to ensure optimum equipment utilisation

Maintain history files on all equipment for preventive maintenance planning and critical spares holding

Installation and commissioning of new equipment

Perform all activities on SAP PM module

Work towards zero breakdown and production loss due to equipment

Executing all improvement projects

Materials Management

Ensure correct materials and quantities are in place for work, ensure most efficient use of materials, inspect quality before use

Upgrade critical list of equipment and spares parts for each equipment and ensure availability

Labour and Contractor Management

In conjunction with Maintenance Supervisor ensure sufficient skilled personnel to carry out maintenance and repair tasks

Ensure compliance with legal requirements, Labour recruitment for Maintenance Department and enforce discipline in terms of company procedures

In conjunction with OHS Coordinator control all contractor activities and ensure compliance with all legal and company requirements

Equipment and Consumables

Maintain all equipment in good condition and ensure no persons other than qualified maintenance personnel have access to such equipment

Maintain sufficient consumables to ensure no delay in maintenance and repair tasks

Ensure monthly stock take is done

Reporting and Communication

Attend weekly communication and monthly management review and OHS meetings

Discuss preventive maintenance schedule with production HODs to ensure minimum production downtime

Provide the Manager Operations monthly with equipment utilization figures

SHEQ Responsibilities

Ensure all employees comply fully with Section 14 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act : General duties of employees at work

It is your responsibility to ensure that you and your subordinates are familiar with the above section. A copy can be requested from the OHS Manager. Copies of the act are also available electronically on the Company’s home page. Summaries of the act are displayed throughout all departments in the Company

You are further required to comply and ensure the compliance of your subordinates with all requirements of the Company’s quality management system applicable to your position and activities

Amongst your duties as stipulated in the latest version of the General Machine Regulation, focus your attention on all lifting equipment. The equipment pieces will be registered, certificates obtained, and regular services done

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

Grade 12 with maths

Mechanical Engineer who is a graduate engineer or certified engineer

Minimum time of 10 years of Maintenance experience of production equipment including hydraulics, cranes, boiler, compressor

Minimum time of 5 years of Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment

Basic financial and administrative skills

Microsoft Office and SAP
