We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Maintenance Manager to support the Chief Engineer in overseeing all hotel maintenance operations. This newly created role forms an essential part of our journey to luxury , ensuring that every aspect of the hotel’s infrastructure reflects world-class standards of efficiency, safety, and guest satisfaction.
This position is both hands-on and supervisory, leading the property’s maintenance team while ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural systems operate at peak performance.
Experience & Requirements
- National Diploma or Trade Certificate in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, or Building Services (Red Seal preferred)
- Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in facilities, engineering, or building maintenance
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or senior technician role
- Hotel, hospital, or corporate building experience essential
- Proven technical knowledge across multiple trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and carpentry)
- Proficiency in CMMS systems such as OMNI, INFOR, or HotSOS
- Strong leadership, task delegation, and people management skills
- Excellent problem-solving, planning, and fault-diagnosis abilities
- Clear communication skills with fluency in English (additional languages advantageous)
- OHS / Health & Safety certification is an advantage
- Must hold a valid South African ID

Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
Support the Chief Engineer in managing and developing the maintenance and engineering team.Supervise Foremen, Technicians, Electricians, Plumbers, and Contractors across all disciplines.Conduct daily briefings, allocate tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure team accountability.Maintain optimal staffing levels and assist with scheduling and shift management.Operational Oversight
Oversee all maintenance requests and ensure timely completion via the CMMS system.Respond promptly to emergency repairs, guest issues, and safety concerns.Inspect guest rooms, public areas, and plant rooms to ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and safely.Verify work quality, completion, and accurate documentation for each task.Preventive Maintenance
Manage and monitor the hotel’s Preventive Maintenance Program (PPM) to minimise downtime.Schedule and coordinate maintenance of major systems — chillers, boilers, pumps, fans, fire systems, generators, and water heaters.Review PPM checklists and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.Energy & Utility Management
Support energy-saving and sustainability initiatives throughout the property.Track and report on electricity, water, and gas usage, identifying inefficiencies or opportunities for improvement.Recommend practical efficiency upgrades to optimise utility performance.Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure full compliance with all legal, health, and safety regulations (OHS, SANS, fire codes).Conduct inspections, audits, and risk assessments; implement corrective measures.Promote a culture of safety awareness and enforce PPE and Lock-out / Tag-out (LOTO) procedures.Projects & Asset Management
Assist with planning and execution of capital projects, refurbishments, and renovations.Oversee contractors and ensure all works are completed safely, on time, and with minimal guest disruption.Maintain asset registers, service logs, and warranty records.Oversee inventory and procurement of maintenance tools, parts, and consumables.Team Development & Conduct
Mentor and train the maintenance team, promoting a culture of professionalism and growth.Uphold grooming, attendance, and behavioural standards.Foster collaboration, accountability, and pride in maintaining a world-class property.Communication & Coordination
Liaise with other departments - Housekeeping, F&B, Front Office, and Security to ensure smooth coordination of maintenance work.Attend operational, safety, and planning meetings as required.Provide regular reports to the Chief Engineer on maintenance performance and priorities.About The President Hotel
