MEDICAL OFFICER - PAEDIATRICS AND CHILD HEALTH

Requirements :

An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner, HPCSA registration as an Independent Medical Practitioner and must have completed Community Service. Current registration with HPCSA for 2025 / 2026. No experience required.

Duties :

Interview, investigate, diagnose, and oversee the treatment of patient related administrative duties, participate in all activities of the discipline in relation to teaching and research, participating in departmental audit activities, prepare and write reports, communication services and community liaison. Supervise junior doctors (undergraduate students, interns, and community service doctors). Willing to work longer hours night, weekend, and public holiday) to provide continuous uninterrupted care of patients. Attend relevant administrative meetings like mortality meetings, near miss meetings and completing Medico-Legal Documents timeously (e.g., Death certificate). Improve quality of care by providing appropriate clinical care. Reduce medical litigation by exercising good clinical ethos. Implement and monitor adherence to National Core Standards (norms and standards). Participate in multidisciplinary team to the management of patients. Perform practical procedures relevant to the care of patients. Participate in departmental meetings, journal clubs, case presentations, lectures, and ward rounds. Ensure effective administration and safe record keeping in the department. (Medical officers will inter alia be responsible for rendering of clinical services, assessment, and treatment of patients. Medical officers will be rotated through related departments at various hospitals, comprising hospitals served in their specific outreach programmes.

Candidates in possession of a foreign qualification must furnish the Department with an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Applicants with foreign qualifications remain responsible for ensuring that their qualifications are evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Registrars will be required to rotate between the different institutions. Preference will be given to South African citizens. The performance of normal and commuted overtime is not mandatory, however it will be based on the operational needs of the hospitals.
