Role summary
My client is a client-focused Trust and Investment Management company providing financial planning and investment advice and services to clients planning for, or already in, retirement. They offer a full range of financial services including investment & portfolio management, offshore financial services, trustee services, retirement planning, money market products, estate planning, tax services and wills. The new vacancy is within their tax and accounting service teams, at their offices in the Cape Town southern suburbs. The role has a dual focus and is responsible for trust tax and related tax compliance support, as well as individual tax compliance for individual taxpayers who are investment clients of the company. The ideal candidate will have experience managing a client‑facing tax practice with a minimum of 8+ years in this area.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities
- Overall Tax and Accounting Services Compliance : review legislative changes and recommend changes in business operations, processes, and procedures for approval by Exco, RCC or the Executive Board.
- Manage key client allocations for a family group with complex tax matters.
- Oversee service level agreements and third‑party compliance requirements where clients source external tax and / or accounting services, where the client is an investment manager or professional trustee.
- Provide regular training and development opportunities for the in‑house team on statutory changes relevant to business operations.
- Assist advisory and fiduciary operations in new business initiatives to secure new investment and fiduciary clientele.
- Technical and specialist queries : assist advisory, fiduciary and consulting operations with specialist queries.
- Interface with a tax specialist and brief a tax attorney on tax dispute resolution measures.
- Lead and manage team members, report to Exco on operations and risk management, ensure commitments and deliverables are met, and communicate with clients and advisory / fiduciary teams in a timely manner.
- Provide back-up support for the team as required.
Qualifications
Key requirements for applicants
Relevant tertiary qualification : BCom (Accounting) or BCom Honours in Taxation or similar.Proven experience in managing a busy, client‑focused tax practice (8+ years preferred), including tax practice management and risk management experience.Completed accounting or auditing articles preferred.Computer literacy is essential, including advanced MS Excel and knowledge of relevant tax software / packages.Experience with bulk data uploads, data integrity controls and risk management with third parties.Fit and proper requirements, and professional credentials such as Registered Tax Advisor or Tax Practitioner in order.Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.Clean credit and criminal checks; valid, unendorsed driver’s licence and own vehicle are required.Note : A half‑day or three‑quarter‑day work option may also be considered for this role.
